A new addition to the alternative tourist itinerary has to be the Neighbours' trail. This soap which began in 1985 and follows the lives of those residents of Ramsay Street has attracted over 120 million TV viewers. There is an actual Neighbours' set to be found in the Melbourne Museum of all places. Here the Robinson's kitchen there to see, with its fully stocked fridge Cast members have signed the back of the set – so there's a chance to see their thoughts, scrawled while waiting their turn in front of the camera. A British TV poll said that the marriage of Charlene (Kylie Minogue) to Scott (Jason Donovan) was one of the most romantic TV moments ever. The brides wedding err dress may also be seen in the museum. Some visitors, in search of an authentic experience head down to the real Ramsay Street (actually Pin Oak Court in Vermont South) to see the homes that belong to the Ramsay Street residents. You may also get to see the cast filming out door scenes on the day. Hostels and hotels will have plenty of leaflets indicating the times and locations of the latest Neighbours' tour. The more fanatic of fans can take part in the Neighbours' trivia night held every Monday evening at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub in St Kilda – where cast members regularly make appearances. The St. Kilda bars and clubs are where you may bump into some of the cast members who may, if you ask nicely, give you a dance. |
